NHS treatment for children

How we work with the NHS

Here at BeClear Orthodontics, we do not currently provide NHS treatment for children. However, Dr Dima understands the system and will work closely with your dentist to ensure your child is referred to the NHS for treatment at the appropriate time.

Could your child qualify for NHS treatment?

We know how important it is for your child to see a Specialist Orthodontist early on - and we never want the cost of braces to prohibit them from the NHS care they may qualify for. That’s why our first consultations are free for smiles of all ages.

During your child’s visit, we will:

  • Complete a comprehensive examination of how your child’s teeth and jaw are forming
  • Take accurate 3D scans, photos, and x-rays (as needed)
  • Discuss their teeth, jaws and bite with you
  • Review treatment options that would be a good fit for them
  • Evaluate their eligibility for treatment under the NHS

Why get early treatment for your child?

Did you know that 90% of your child’s teeth will have fully developed by the time they reach 12 years old? Starting orthodontic treatment helps their teeth grow with the proper alignment, reducing or eliminating the need for braces in the future.

During the initial consultation, there are a few things we look for in order to ensure the favourable growth and dental development of your child.

There are multiple reasons we may recommend orthodontic treatment that include but aren’t limited to:

Issues with their tooth, bite or jaw development

  • Crossbite of the front teeth – top teeth are behind bottom teeth
  • Crossbite of the back teeth – top back teeth are on the inside of bottom teeth
  • Crowding – insufficient room for incoming permanent teeth
  • Underbite – upper teeth sit behind lower teeth when back teeth are closed
  • Open bite – front teeth do not meet when the back teeth are closed
  • Deep bite – excessive vertical overlap of the front teeth
  • Protrusion – excessive overhang of top teeth over bottom teeth
  • Spacing – excessive spacing between teeth

Narrow airways or disruption to their breathing

  • Chronic open mouth position
  • Swollen gums
  • Pouting lower lip
  • Upper teeth bucked forward
  • Showing a lot of gum tissue when smiling

Issues with breathing

  • Snoring
  • Bed wetting
  • Sleepwalking
  • Attention difficulties
  • Change in your child’s mood
  • Tossing and turning in their sleep
  • Breathing through their mouth
  • Diminished growth, hormone or metabolic problems
