What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a world-leading clear aligner system that uses a series of removable, custom-made trays to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal position. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® aligners are nearly invisible, made from smooth plastic, and offer a flexible, comfortable alternative - especially for busy parents, teens and working professionals.
Can you eat and drink with Invisalign®?
One of the most common questions we hear from patients is whether they’ll need to change their diet. The good news? Not really - because you’ll remove your aligners to eat and drink anything other than plain water.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Take your aligners out before eating or drinking. Hot liquids can warp the plastic, and food particles can cause staining or plaque build-up.
- Enjoy your normal diet. Since there are no brackets or wires, you can still eat crunchy, sticky or chewy foods - you just need to brush before putting your aligners back in.
- Stick to water while wearing aligners. This helps keep your aligners clear and your teeth healthy.

Will Invisalign® affect my speech?
It’s completely normal to experience a slight lisp when you first start wearing your aligners. This usually goes away after a few days as your tongue adjusts.
Tip: The more you speak, the faster your mouth adapts. So don’t shy away from that Monday meeting - your confidence will grow quickly!
How long should I wear my aligners each day?
Invisalign® aligners need to be worn for 20–22 hours per day to be effective. That means you’ll wear them most of the day and night, only removing them to eat, drink or brush.

What about brushing and flossing?
Your oral hygiene routine may get a little glow-up. You’ll need to:
- Brush after every meal or snack before reinserting your aligners
- Floss daily to avoid trapping food between your teeth
- Clean your aligners twice a day (we recommend a soft brush and lukewarm water, or Invisalign® Cleaning Crystals)
The extra care helps ensure your teeth stay healthy and your aligners stay crystal-clear.
Can I play sports or instruments with Invisalign®?
Absolutely. Invisalign® aligners are smooth and removable, making them an ideal option for active teens and adults alike.
- For sports: Take them out if you’re wearing a mouthguard
- For instruments: Most musicians adjust within a few days and can play comfortably with aligners in
